From the alarm to out the door

You woke up on time. You left late anyway.

You didn’t oversleep. A few minutes went here, a few went there, and the time to leave arrived before you did.

Sound familiar?

The hour after the alarm. One small slip at a time.

  1. 7:00 · Alarm offOver an hour until I leave. Plenty of time.
  2. 7:43 · Second coffeeWait. How is it 7:43?
  3. 7:51 · Half-dressedSkip breakfast, or just run?
  4. 8:04 · At the doorKeys, wallet… where’s my badge?

The alarm did its job. Nobody planned the hour after it.

They get you up.They don’t get you out.

  • An earlier alarm

gives you more morning. Not a plan for spending it.

  • A routine checklist

lists the steps. It can’t tell you whether they still fit.

  • The clock on the wall

says 7:43. Not whether 7:43 is fine.

What’s missing is the other end of the morning: the time you have to leave.

Meet Launch Control

Start at the door.Work back to the alarm.

Launch Control plans your morning backward from the one time you know for sure: when you have to leave. Add the steps you actually do, a time for each and a little cushion, and it works out when to wake.

  • Your leave time, your steps, your estimates
  • A cushion for what doesn’t go to plan
  • A separate Morning for each kind of day

Your first plan can start from a template’s suggested times. You can change every step and every minute.

Launch Control’s first morning plan, titled Your morning, ready: wake at 7:02, then Meds 2 min, Shower 12, Get dressed 6, Breakfast 10, Coffee 5, Pack bag 8 and Tidy kitchen 5, a 15-minute cushion, and leave by 8:05. Buttons: Use this plan and Edit.

7:43“Wait. How is it 7:43?”

See what still fits. While there’s time to act.

On the Morning Board, a countdown runs to your leave time. Under it: the steps still ahead, and what’s left once they’re done. Minutes to spare, or minutes behind, while you can still do something about it.

  • A live countdown to the door
  • Spare or behind, after the steps still ahead
  • The countdown on your Lock Screen, too

Spare time is worked out from your step estimates. It’s a projection, not a promise.

Morning Board: leave in 00:40:00, 30 minutes of steps remaining, 10 minutes spare. Pack bag is running at 3 of 8 minutes, Shower and Breakfast are paused, and Meds and Coffee are done.

7:51“Skip breakfast, or just run?”

Running late?Choose what to skip.

When the steps ahead stop fitting, Launch Control suggests one you’ve said can be skipped and shows what it gives back. Here, dropping a 10-minute breakfast turns 3 minutes behind into 7 to spare.

Try it: 3 minutes behind

3 min behind7 min spareNothing skipped. Still 3 min behind.

  • Only steps you’ve marked as skippable
  • The minutes it gives back, up front
  • Skip it, or keep everything

Nothing is skipped until you choose. If no skip can close the gap, it tells you how many minutes are still missing.

Morning Board, 3 minutes behind: leave in 00:45:00 with 48 minutes of steps remaining. A card suggests skipping Breakfast, 10 minutes, to get back to 7 minutes spare, with Skip it and Keep everything buttons.

8:04“Keys, wallet… where’s my badge?”

Leave withwhat you need.

Make a Launch Kit of everything that comes with you: keys, wallet, meds, badge, lunch. When your steps are done, Door Check puts the list in front of you. Strike things off as they go in your pocket, then tap Launch on your way out.

  • Your own list, attached to your Mornings
  • What’s still unchecked, at a glance
  • Launch records the moment you leave

Door Check is a list you tick yourself. It doesn’t detect what’s in your bag.

Door Check, titled Out the door: Keys, Wallet, Meds, Badge and Lunch, with Wallet struck off. A note says 4 minutes until leave time, and the Launch button shows 4 items to go.

Tonight“Tomorrow I’ll just be quicker.”

Make tomorrowless of a guess.

As you start and finish steps, Launch Control measures how long they really take. At the evening Check-in, it proposes times for tomorrow from your recent mornings. Apply them, or leave them for now.

  • Measured from steps you finished
  • Proposed at the evening Check-in
  • Your plan changes only when you apply them

A proposal uses the median of a step’s latest completed runs, up to seven, from mornings where you recorded leaving.

Tonight’s Check-in, titled Set up tomorrow: times measured from a morning are ready. Shower matches its 8-minute estimate and Breakfast is proposed to go from 10 to 12 minutes. Wake stays at 7:32 with 8 minutes of Slack. Apply all and Not now buttons sit above leave by 8:00 and the wake alarm.
